Printouts from laptops


Documents may be sent for printing to B/W-copier/printer Lanier 5645 (HCI H 5.2) while using laptops connected to the network by means of Wireless LAN. Printouts are released by the Printer Release System PRS4 in HCI H 5.2. The cost is debted to the copy card (10 Cents/A4 page or 20 Cents/A3 page). To be able to use this service, it is required that you are ETH member and have a valid access to the network.

To ensure correct debit to the copy card, please follow the installation instructions carefully.

The installation requires administrative rights.

Installation of printer driver and PPD files

  • Download L199caL9.hqx and unpack the file by double-clicking it
  • Open the new folder "Mac OS X PPD Installer" and run the "PPD_Installer_Lanier.pkg" software
  • Click three times "Continue" button and agree to the license agreement
  • Select the destination volume, then click button "Continue"
  • "Install" (or "Upgrade"); here login to an administrator account is required. The software will be installed. Finish by clicking button "Close".

Installation and configuration of printer

  • In System Preferences, choose "Print & Fax" and click the lock in the lower left corner for authentication as an administrator.
  • Plus-button opens the Printer Browser. Configure according to steps 1-8

  • "Add" opens Installable Options, configure according to 1-4, "Continue", close

You can then print documents for all Mac OS X applications. See Copying and Printing for instructions on releasing the print jobs.

Installation of the LPR port for Windows XP (or 2000)

Installation of the LPR port must be carried out if LPR support has not been installed yet. Otherwise proceed to installation of the printer driver. However, in a standard Windows installation the LPR components are missing and must be installed. Eventually, you will need aWindows Installation CD.

  • Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel
  • Open "Add Software" by double-clicking the icon
  • Click  "Add or remove Windows components" at the left border

  • Tickmark "Other Network Print and File Services" (= UNIX network printer components)
  • "Next" and "Finish"
  • Reboot computer

Installation and configuration of the printer driver

  • Download L11062en.exe and unpack the file by double-clicking the icon. Choose a convenient directory for the unpacked files and write down its location (e.g. C:\Drivers\Printers\LANIER\5645PS)
  • Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel, then Printers & Faxes. Start the "Add printer" assistant. Hit twice "Next"  
  • Leave option "Local printer" active.
  • "Next" ...

  • Choose "Disk ..."  and use "Browse..." to navigate to the directory with the unpacked drivers, then to its subdirectory DISK1:

  • Fill out the remaining fields (printer name, printer sharing, test page, default printer etc.) and finish using button "Finish".
  • The driver must be configured now. Choose Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes. Click with right mouse button on the icon for Lanier 5645. Choosing "Properties" in the contextual menu opens the form "Properties of ...". Choose tab "Device Settings".
  • At the bottom of the form, at "Installable options", set the following parameters:

  • then, at the top, at "Form To Tray Assignment" assign the following paper formats to the output trays:

  • "Apply" – "OK" – "OK" finishes the configuration.
